AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan changed the political agenda when he said "It would be appropriate to change the 50+1 requirement" during an interview with journalists on his return from a visit to Germany.
Speaking on the subject, Minister of Justice Yılmaz Tunç stated that there is no turning back from the Presidential Government System and responded to the question "Will the 50+1 percent requirement change?".
Stating that the longest legislative year has been witnessed and that the longest executive term has also been completed by finishing the 5-year period in the executive branch, Minister Tunç said, "The Presidential Government System is a unique system where the public directly determines the executive, which strengthens the Republic and in which the will of the nation, most suitable for the republican regime and democracy, is reflected in the executive."
Tunç said, "The Presidential Government System is a system of stability. However, if there is a need for revision in the system, it can be sat down and discussed; this is unavoidable."
Minister Tunç stated that the process regarding 50+1 is at the discretion of the Parliament.
