Breaking News... Leadership changes in Bursa! AKP candidate wins the third round

Following the arrest of Bursa Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Mustafa Bozbey in connection with allegations dating back 7 years, an election for acting mayor was held in the municipal council. The election process was completed in three rounds.

ALL VOTES WENT TO A SINGLE CANDIDATE IN THE FIRST ROUND

The first round of voting concluded in an election where the Republican People's Party (CHP) did not field a candidate. All 61 council members participating in the vote cast their ballots for the AKP candidate, Şahin Biba. However, since the 71 votes required for a two-thirds majority of the total number of members were not reached, the election moved to a second round.

NO RESULT IN THE SECOND ROUND EITHER

The second round of voting began at 13:00. The required threshold of 71 votes was not reached in this round either. Of the 61 votes cast, 60 were for Şahin Biba. One vote was declared invalid because the candidate's surname was written as "Babi".

In the second round, one council member wrote "Şahin Babi" instead of "Şahin Biba" on the ballot, resulting in the vote being declared invalid. This situation caused the required majority not to be reached in the second round as well.

ELECTION MOVED TO THE THIRD ROUND

As the two-thirds majority could not be reached in the second round, the election proceeded to the third round. Before the third round, a unanimous decision was made not to take a break in the council, and voting continued directly.

In the third round, a simple majority was the requirement. AKP member Şahin Biba, who entered the election as the sole candidate, was elected acting mayor as a result of the vote.
