Breaking News... Vote held: Commission headed to İmralı

MHP Deputy Chairman Feti Yıldız announced the name who will participate in his party's visit to İmralı. Following the MHP's announcement of its decision regarding the visit to be made to İmralı Island, all eyes turned to the National Brotherhood, Solidarity and Democracy Commission to be established in the Turkish Grand National Assembly (TBMM). The commission will convene today at 14:00 to make its final decision regarding the visit.

VISIT APPROVAL FROM MHP

Following MHP leader Devlet Bahçeli's statement on Tuesday, "I will go if necessary," MHP Deputy Chairman Feti Yıldız announced that the party has approved the visit to İmralı. Clarifying his party's stance regarding the vote to be held for the visit, Yıldız stated, "If a decision is to be made, a vote will be held, but a qualified majority will not be required."

YILDIZ APPOINTED

MHP Deputy Chairman Feti Yıldız has been appointed for the MHP's İmralı visit. In his statement announcing his party's decision on the visit, Yıldız said, "We would like the most deep-rooted party, the CHP, to participate; I will go on behalf of the MHP." It has been finalized that Yıldız will go to the island as the representative designated by the MHP for participation in the commission.

AKP AND CHP'S STANCE AWAITED

Following the MHP, the AKP front also drew attention as a party approaching the visit positively. President and AKP Chairman Recep Tayyip Erdoğan had pointed to the commission and given the green light for the party's visit to İmralı. AKP Group Chairman Abdullah Güler also announced that, as a party, they expressed a positive opinion on the visit together with the People's Alliance (Cumhur İttifakı).

The CHP, however, has not yet clarified its decision. While announcing his party's decision, CHP Group Deputy Chairman Ali Mahir Başarır stated, "Our decision tomorrow will be one that does not hurt the conscience of our country and our citizens." CHP's Murat Emir, on the other hand, used the expressions, "A solution is being discussed, but there is no concrete step," before the meeting.

26 VOTES SUFFICIENT FOR VISIT TO İMRALI

If a vote is held in the commission, 26 "yes" votes will be sufficient for the İmralı visit. A 3/5 majority will not be sought in the vote; a simple majority will be sufficient.

The final decision regarding the İmralı visit will be made at the National Brotherhood, Solidarity and Democracy Commission, which will convene today at 14:00. If the commission meeting is open to the press, the parties' decisions will be shared with the public.

VOTE TO BE HELD

It was stated that a vote would be held in the commission for the İmralı visit. The vote to be held will be conducted by secret ballot.

VOTE CONCLUDED: COMMISSION IS GOING TO İMRALI

The "İmralı decision," on which all eyes were turned during the process, has been made.

The decision to "go to İmralı" emerged from the National Solidarity, Brotherhood and Democracy Commission Meeting.

A delegation to be formed from within the commission will meet with terrorist organization leader Abdullah Öcalan on İmralı Island.

The decision was taken by majority vote. In the vote in the commission, 32 "Yes" votes were cast. In the vote, 3 members voted "No," and 2 members cast "Abstain" votes.

KURTULMUŞ MET WITH PARTY COORDINATORS BEFOREHAND

Before the meeting where it would be decided to go to İmralı Island to visit PKK ringleader Abdullah Öcalan, Parliament Speaker Numan Kurtulmuş met with the coordinators of the political parties in the National Solidarity, Brotherhood and Democracy Commission.

The meeting held in Parliament was attended by AKP Group Chairman Abdulhamit Gül, Peoples' Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) Group Deputy Chairman Gülistan Kılıç Koçyiğit, MHP Deputy Chairman Feti Yıldız, CHP Group Deputy Chairman Murat Emir, and New Way Group (Yeni Yol Grubu) Group Chairman Bülent Kaya.
