Bülent Arınç speaks out on the fund crisis: If those responsible are not exposed, elections could be lost
Former Parliament Speaker Bülent Arınç stated that if there is no accountability regarding the fund crisis in capital markets, it will have political consequences.
Former Parliament Speaker Bülent Arınç answered journalists' questions at a reception held for the start of the new legislative year of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM). Evaluating the "fund crisis" in capital markets and the grievances of investors, Arınç said that the process must be followed through to the end.
Stating that Turkey does not deserve what it is experiencing, Arınç expressed that the issue is not limited to its economic dimension and must also be addressed in its social and ethical aspects. Arınç said, "It will be pursued to the end, let us see. Let us know what will emerge. Let us hold all of them accountable."
Drawing attention to the amount of loss mentioned regarding the crisis, Arınç stated, "A loss of 800 billion is being mentioned. The money to be collected from here and there is not even 8 billion. Who will pay the rest, who is responsible for this? All of them must be exposed."
CALL FOR ACCOUNTABILITY
In his statement, Arınç emphasized transparency and accountability. Stating that the political institution is going through a difficult period, Arınç argued that the wrong actions of people who define themselves as religious also harm religious values.
Saying that he has a long-standing political partnership with President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Arınç stated that he trusts Erdoğan's words that the investigation will be carried out to the end. Arınç said, "I trust our President's words, and I hope this will be realized."
Expressing that if the process is not completed, it could lead to political consequences, Arınç said, "If these do not happen, elections will be lost, but worst of all, people will lose all the feelings they have toward faith and toward us. I do not want it to be this way."
The fund investigation in capital markets is among the agenda items for the Parliament's new legislative year. Different political parties state that the issue must be investigated in order to identify those responsible and resolve investor grievances.
