Bülent Arınç takes aim at Bahçeli without naming him: 'Those who are chasing status for Apo today...'

MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli, the architect of the second opening process dubbed a 'Terror-Free Turkey,' brought the issue of status for PKK terrorist organization leader Abdullah Öcalan back to the agenda during his party's parliamentary group meeting, shifting gears.

Bahçeli stated, "The issue of Abdullah Öcalan's status is important to us, as we have expressed before. It is not possible for the process to function healthily by acting as if this issue does not exist. To end these discussions, I propose that this be named the 'Peace Process and Politicization Coordination.'"

Following this move by Bahçeli, which dominated the agenda, a remarkable statement came from former Parliament Speaker Bülent Arınç.

Making statements regarding the agenda at the 'Social Peace and Political Relations' conference held by the Full Democracy Platform in Ankara, Arınç supported the demand for the restoration of reputation for those dismissed by statutory decrees (KHK) following the July 15 coup attempt.

"THOSE WHO ARE CHASING STATUS FOR APO TODAY..."

Arınç said, "Those who are chasing status for Apo today should first resolve this," stating that those dismissed by KHK are being excluded from society and that their rights must be restored.

Arınç expressed that the grievance stems from individuals being accused of treason, stating, "The only thing they want is this: 'I am not a traitor.' I call it a request for 'restoration of reputation.' You will do this, my friend. If you don't, you are committing oppression. And oppression does not suit us or you. A politician does not commit oppression."
