Former Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) Bülent Arınç answered journalists' questions at the reception held for the new legislative year of the TBMM. In his assessment regarding the investigation that has come to the fore in capital markets and the grievances of investors, Arınç stated that the process has not only economic but also social and moral dimensions.
Stating that what has happened does not suit Turkey, Arınç emphasized that those responsible must be uncovered and the public must be satisfied. Arınç used the expressions, "A loss of 800 billion is being mentioned. The money to be collected from here and there is not even 8 billion. Who will pay the rest, who is responsible for this? All of them must be exposed."
Expressing that the political institution is going through a difficult period, Arınç drew attention to the importance of transparency and accountability. Stating that the wrong actions of some individuals who define themselves as religious also harm religious values, Arınç said that for this reason, the results of the investigation are critical for society.
Touching upon President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's messages that the investigation will be pursued to the end, Arınç said, "I trust our President's words, and I hope this will be realized."
Arınç stated that if those responsible are not held accountable, there could be political consequences, adding, "If these things do not happen, elections will be lost, but the worst part is that people will lose all the feelings they have toward faith and toward us. I do not want it to be this way."
