CHP Adana MP Burhanettin Bulut reacted to the detention of mayors. In a statement on his social media account, Bulut evaluated the detention of three mayors in Mersin, followed by the Mayor of Eyüpsultan, as an attempt by the government to change the agenda.
In his statement, Bulut pointed to the "fund scandal" debates, arguing that the public is being distracted from the real agenda. Stating that the operations against elected mayors target the "will of the people," Bulut reiterated his call for accountability.
The government, buried under the fund scandal, has started pressing all the buttons at once to change the agenda and prevent accountability for the billions of dollars that have been embezzled. Yesterday, three mayors in Mersin, and today the Mayor of Eyüpsultan, were detained in dawn operations.
Bulut stated, "Operations against the will of the people and elected mayors are being brought to the agenda so that it is not discussed how and by whom the nation's money was embezzled."
At the end of his statement, Bulut said, "No matter what you do, we will not give up on demanding accountability for the nation's money, speaking the truth, and defending the will of the people."
