Cafer Mahiroğlu takes a jab at Fatih Portakal: 'We will throw the rotten fruit out of our basket'

Halk TV owner Cafer Mahiroğlu issued a statement following the detention of journalists Serhan Asker, Barış Pehlivan, and Seda Selek. Mahiroğlu expressed his gratitude for the solidarity shown against the detentions.

"We are grateful to everyone who marched, waited, and raised their voice for the people's journalists," Mahiroğlu said, adding, "Just as we have until today, we will continue to walk with the motto 'Either all together or none of us.' We know that we are strong together."

In the continuation of his message, Cafer Mahiroğlu stated, "In these difficult days, we have also seen the enemies within us, hidden in Trojan horses, appearing as friends. We will throw the rotten fruit, whose knowledge and skill consist only of showmanship, out of our basket." This statement by Mahiroğlu was interpreted as a jab at Sözcü TV presenter Fatih Portakal.

WHAT DID FATİH PORTAKAL SAY?

In his assessment following the detention of journalist Barış Pehlivan, Fatih Portakal had stated that it was wrong for Pehlivan to have published the interview in question with the expert. Portakal's remarks had drawn backlash.

Finally, noting that pressures on the press have increased significantly, Mahiroğlu gave a message of struggle, saying, "A distinction is being made between enemy law and friendly law. But we are the children of these lands. Storms cannot intimidate us."
