Call for dialogue amid rising tensions between the US and Iran

Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Türkiye Hakan Fidan held a meeting with Foreign Minister Velislava Petrova-Chamova in Sofia, the capital of Bulgaria. During the press conference following the meeting, Fidan made statements regarding the recent developments between the US and Iran.

Pointing out that the mutual attacks between the two countries in recent days could lead to a dangerous escalation, Fidan stated, "Until the last few days, the matter in the negotiations had remained at the level of certain sentences. A conviction had formed that an agreement would be reached once those words were also finalized."

Drawing attention to the increase in conflicts, Fidan emphasized that the process could quickly spiral out of control. Minister Fidan said, "We see that the mutual attacks that began two days ago carry a risk of escalation. This truly concerns us. We advise the parties to stop their mutual attacks as soon as possible, return to the negotiating table, and finalize the text they were close to completing. Our work and efforts are in this direction."

In the current situation, Türkiye stated that it is making efforts for the parties to reach an agreement through peaceful means. There is concern that the rising tension on the US-Iran axis could have regional repercussions.
