Call from Özgür Özel for the arrested unionists: They must be released immediately
CHP Chairman Özgür Özel described the arrest of Gökay Çakır and Başaran Aksu as "intimidation of laborers."
CHP Chairman Özgür Özel reacted to the arrest of Independent Mining Union (Bağımsız Maden-İş) President Gökay Çakır and Organizing Expert Başaran Aksu. In a statement on his social media account, Özel stated that both individuals must be released immediately.
Evaluating the arrests as "a clear attempt at intimidation directed at all laborers seeking their rights," Özel emphasized that defending workers' rights cannot be considered a crime.
''Refusing to pay workers their due and then attempting to silence the laborers who demand their rights is the point reached by the AK Party's corrupt order.''
In his statement, Özel expressed that laborers are not alone, saying, "Let no one think that labor is without an owner or that the laborer is alone."
Stating that they will follow the matter to ensure that the miners' rights are paid in full and that the arrested union leaders are released, Özel said, "Gökay Çakır and Başaran Aksu are innocent laborers; both must be released immediately."
