Candidacy statement from Mansur Yavaş's chief advisor: 'There is no possibility...'

Ankara Metropolitan Mayor Mansur Yavaş's chief advisor, Feramuz Üstün, made notable remarks regarding Yavaş's potential presidential candidacy.

Üstün, a former AKP Gümüşhane deputy and one of the founders of the Future Party (Gelecek Partisi), said that the question he encountered most frequently during events he attended in Adana last week was, "Will Yavaş be a candidate?"

According to a report in Sözcü, Üstün claimed that a broad segment of the public in Anatolia is waiting for the decision Yavaş will make. Üstün stated that while Yavaş has not yet announced a definitive decision, in his own assessment, the possibility of his candidacy is very strong.

"Mayor Mansur says, 'I have viewed service as a duty to the homeland, like military service. If the citizens expect such a thing from me, if the nation has such an expectation of me, I will consider it a military duty. And a patriot would not have the option of dodging military service.' He has not made his decision yet, but in my opinion, there is no possibility that Yavaş will not be a candidate. He cannot refrain from candidacy. In other words, society wants it, and the matter has gone beyond him personally."
