Cem Küçük's take on Adem Soytekin: He did a 360-degree turn!

Türkiye newspaper columnist Cem Küçük made a striking statement regarding lawyer Adem Soytekin, who was released after benefiting from effective remorse provisions but was subsequently re-arrested. Contrary to his previous assessments, Küçük stated that the information provided by Soytekin was largely incorrect.

FROM "100 PERCENT ACCURATE" TO "80 PERCENT LIE"

In 2025, on the Taksim Meydanı program broadcast on TGRT Haber, Cem Küçük had argued that the information provided by Soytekin was 100 percent accurate. At the time, Küçük had made an assessment saying, "What extrajudicial execution, he put it in his pocket. What Adem Soytekin says is one hundred percent true." However, following Soytekin's latest arrest, Küçük appeared on Pınar Işık Ardor's program on Ekol TV and said, "It turns out 80 percent of the information provided by Adem Soytekin was not true."

ADEM SOYTEKIN'S SITUATION AND THE ARREST DECISION

Adem Soytekin had previously been released by benefiting from effective remorse provisions due to his statements during the investigation. However, the prosecutor's office determined that Soytekin's statements were inconsistent and incomplete, and requested his re-arrest on October 21. The court accepted the request and sent Soytekin back to prison.

The contradictions between the statements Küçük made about Soytekin drew attention. Having previously trusted the accuracy of Soytekin's statements 100 percent, Küçük pointed out in his latest statement that the majority of Soytekin's accounts were incorrect.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Adem Soytekin, the owner of ASOY Construction, who was arrested on March 23 as part of the corruption investigation into the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IBB), had previously benefited from "effective remorse" provisions and was released on July 10 after his testimony was deemed sufficient.

However, the prosecutor's office, which re-evaluated the investigation file, detected "inconsistencies" in the statements provided by Soytekin. Upon this, his re-arrest was requested on October 21.

The court found the request justified and decided to re-arrest Soytekin on charges of "being a member of a criminal organization" and "taking bribes." Soytekin was sent to prison for the second time.
