İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Cemil Tugay made statements regarding the process of his transition to the AKP. Visiting the İzmir Union of Chambers of Tradesmen and Craftsmen, Tugay made evaluations regarding his political choice during his meeting with the heads of the tradesmen's chambers.
Stating that he has not changed, Tugay said, "As a person, the Cemil Tugay you know has not changed in any way, will not change, and it is impossible for him to change."
Stating that the decision to join the AKP did not emerge spontaneously, Tugay expressed that he experienced certain developments during the process. Tugay said, "I did not know beforehand that these things would happen this way. When political developments in our country made it impossible for me to fulfill my responsibility to the city, I was forced to come to a crossroads."
Tugay said that he did not have a close dialogue with President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan before, but that he closely observed Erdoğan's interest in İzmir during their meetings.
"ONE OF THE MOST POWERFUL, EXPERIENCED, AND VALUABLE POLITICIANS"
Using words of praise for Erdoğan, Tugay said, "I see our President as one of the most powerful, experienced, and valuable politicians that Turkey has raised, and who has especially left his mark on the last 25 years. No one can say the opposite of this anyway."
Stating that Erdoğan reached his current position through his work, intellect, and skill, Tugay said, "I am sure that 100-200 years from now, he will be remembered for the good things he did and the services he provided to this country."
Arguing that those who have the opportunity to meet with Erdoğan one-on-one could gain similar impressions, Tugay said that the President is a hardworking, idealistic, and kind-hearted person; that he loves his country and cares for his nation.
