Çeşme Mayor Lal Denizli vows to 'hold slanderers accountable'

It has been announced that the results of tests conducted as part of a "drug" investigation carried out by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office into CHP Çeşme Mayor Lal Denizli have returned negative.

It was stated that Denizli, who was called to testify within the scope of the investigation, was subjected to tests at the Forensic Medicine Institute under the direction of the prosecutor's office.

In a statement regarding the process, Denizli said she learned she had been called to testify as part of the investigation and that two days later, they verbally informed the prosecutor's office through her lawyer that they wanted to undergo testing at the Forensic Medicine Institute.

Stating that her lawyers later submitted the same request to the file via a petition through the National Judiciary Informatics System (UYAP), Denizli noted that she went to the prosecutor's office on February 20 upon invitation to give her statement and reiterated this request during her testimony.

PROVIDED HAIR, BLOOD, URINE, AND NAIL SAMPLES

Denizli stated that she went to the Forensic Medicine Institute under the direction of the prosecutor's office and provided samples.

STATED SHE CONTINUED WORKING DURING THE INVESTIGATION PROCESS

Denizli stated that she continued her duties throughout the investigation process and continued to work for the city.

Saying that she has faced various labels since the first day she was nominated, Denizli used the following words in her statement:

“As always, I continued to work and serve my city. Since the first day I was nominated, I have been the subject of various labels. Within the framework of the values I believe in and my principle of conducting politics, it has never been my principle to produce responses to slander or to keep up with immoral labels. It will not be from now on either.”

“TWO SLANDERERS” CLAIM

Referring to the witness statements in the investigation file, Denizli stated that two people, one a secret witness and the other an open witness, made various allegations.

In her statement, Denizli used the expression, “During the testimony, they attempted to associate my name with various immoral labels, with one secret and one open witness whom I do not know at all.”

“ACCUSATIONS NOT BASED ON ANY EVIDENCE”

Characterizing the allegations in question as "slander," Denizli made the following statement:

“Two slanderers. We are all witnessing the endless attempts at character assassination in Turkey in recent years. We all see and experience that there is a minority group that sees itself entitled to make terrible accusations against people through word games that are not based on any evidence or truth.”

The statement expressed that these allegations targeted not only her but also her colleagues.

“PEOPLE WHO HAVE SURRENDERED THEIR SOULS TO THE ORDER OF SLANDER”

In her statement, Denizli also expressed the following words:

“We know and recognize those who see us as easy targets, who see themselves entitled to hit below the belt as they wish, and who have surrendered their souls to this order of slander, from those who slandered my late sister Gülşah Durbay during her cancer treatment.”

“I WILL HOLD THEM ACCOUNTABLE ONE BY ONE BEFORE THE JUDICIARY”

Stating that her family was also affected by the process, Denizli used the following expressions in her statement:

“What hurt me the most in this process were the sleepless nights my dear father spent out of sadness and my mother's tears. That is precisely why my lawyers are initiating legal processes against everyone who makes and spreads all these immoral slanders against my family. I will hold them all accountable one by one before the judiciary.”

REPORT SUBMITTED TO THE FILE

Denizli stated that she was informed by her lawyer that the report prepared by the Forensic Medicine Institute had been submitted to the file.

Stating that the test results were negative, Denizli said she made the statement to inform the public.

“I HAVE NOT BEEN PART OF A SUBJECT I CANNOT ACCOUNT FOR”

Stating that public officials cannot escape investigations, Denizli used the following expressions in her statement:

“Yesterday, today, and tomorrow, I have not been, nor will I be, a part or subject of a matter for which I cannot account. While we continue a life dedicated to serving our country with dignity, equipped with the values of this country, we do not hesitate for a moment to be open and honest with our nation.”

REGULAR TESTING PROPOSAL

Proposing regular testing to prevent similar allegations, Denizli said, “I think that, just like asset declarations, if necessary, testing bureaucrats and mayors at certain intervals could prevent such immoral labels from being used as a tool for slander.”

THANKED THOSE WHO PROVIDED SUPPORT

In her statement, Denizli thanked those who provided support, especially Özgür Özel.

She also stated that she thanked Cemil Tugay and other mayors for their support.
