It is stated that new expulsion processes for some mayors in the CHP may come to the agenda. According to a report by the pro-government Türkiye Gazetesi, it is stated that the party management is closely monitoring the political balances in local governments and the attitudes of some mayors.
While the number of mayors remaining in the CHP has fallen below 100, it was noted that party officials are focusing on the meeting of mayors planned for November. It had been stated that the meeting, which was previously expected to be held at the end of September or the beginning of October, was postponed due to balances in some provinces.
Evaluating the process, CHP officials stated, “We are closely following the attitudes of some mayors. We are working on a broader list. We plan to come together with the mayors in November.”
One of the topics on the agenda of the CHP management is the balances in the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) Assembly. It is stated that the cooperation approach followed in the Union of Municipalities of Turkey (TBB) elections could be continued in the IMM, but that sensitivity regarding the party's identity will be maintained.
Party officials commented on this issue, saying, “We successfully navigated the TBB elections. The same sensitivity will be shown in the IMM. However, we will not allow the party's corporate identity to be damaged.”
