CHP begins preparations: Özgür Özel gives 'local election' instructions to his party

CHP Chairman Özgür Özelheld a meeting with 81 provincial chairs at his party's headquarters yesterday (November 15).

"WE WILL DECIDE WITH YOU"

According to the report in Cumhuriyet newspaper, it was stated that Özel told the chairs at the meeting, "We will decide what to do and where to do it with you. Talk to your organizations. Come with your candidate recommendations. Do your work. Let's discuss the path we will follow." It was also noted that Özel promised the chairs that he would frequently seek their opinions throughout the local election process.

WILL THERE BE A PRIMARY?

According to the assessments made with provincial chairs at the meeting, party organizations will prepare reports regarding their respective provinces. It will be evaluated in which districts a primary, a preference poll, or a decision by the headquarters would be more effective.

PERFORMANCE MEASUREMENT

Satisfaction and performance measurements will be conducted regarding current mayors. If incumbent mayors receive high scores in the satisfaction analysis, continuing with them will be on the agenda. If they do not receive the expected support, efforts to identify new candidates will be undertaken. Stating that the party's activities will accelerate starting in December, the chairs emphasize that priority in candidate announcements will be given to places not currently held by the CHP. Beyond this, the headquarters will also form delegations during the candidate selection process. The method to be applied in determining candidates will be decided in light of the work done by the organizations and the headquarters.

NO TIME FOR AN OFFICIAL PRIMARY

Regarding the primary, the chairs shared the information that, "There is not enough time to hold an official primary. Therefore, we will conduct our own primary under the supervision of the organization, and we plan to place ballot boxes in as many centers as possible." It was emphasized that CHP leader Özel reiterated his promise to the chairs regarding the matter, stating, "I will abide by the result that emerges from the primary."
