CHP Chairman Özgür Özel shared his thoughts on the investigation launched into İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Tunç Soyer due to his speech during the 100th-anniversary celebrations of the liberation of İzmir.
Speaking to Ceren Bayar from GazeteDuvar, Özel said the following regarding the investigation launched into Soyer:
''From the very first day, I stood very clearly behind Tunç Soyer's statements. We will continue to stand behind him.''
QUESTION OF POLITICAL BAN
Regarding the question, "A political ban is on the agenda for Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, and now it may be in question for İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Tunç Soyer. What do you say?", Özel stated the following:
"From the very first day, I stood very clearly behind Tunç Soyer's statements. We will continue to stand behind him. No Republican People's Party mayor will surrender to such intimidation efforts. Also, it seems this is the only 'fault' they could find in Tunç Soyer. This is actually a good thing. For Tunç Soyer, this effort is an indication that an effective financial audit has been successfully completed. If they had found even a penny's worth of wrongdoing, they would be attacking him with that today instead of this."
