CHP decides on a 5-member commission ahead of local elections! It will oversee the candidate selection process
The CHP has decided to establish a 5-member commission for the local elections. It has been learned that the commission, which will include Murat Karayalçın, will oversee the candidate selection process.
Local election preparations have gained momentum within the Republican People's Party (CHP). During a CHP Party Assembly meeting chaired by Özgür Özel, methods for determining mayoral candidates were discussed, and a decision was made to establish a 5-member commission.
According to a report by Eray Görgülü from T24, it has been learned that the commission will include former SHP Chairman and Ankara Metropolitan Mayor Murat Karayalçın, CHP Group Deputy Chairman Gökhan Günaydın, CHP Malatya MP Veli Ağbaba, CHP Ordu MP Seyit Torun, and Bihlun Tamaylıgil, who previously served as CHP Secretary General and party spokesperson.
WILL WORK LIKE A ‘COUNCIL OF WISE MEN’
It has been learned that the commission, which will work under Gökan Zeybek, the CHP Deputy Chairman in charge of Local Governments, is intended to function as an advisory board during the candidate selection process ahead of the local elections, while also undertaking a supervisory role. The commission will also act as a “council of wise men” regarding alliance processes.
‘WE WILL HANDLE CANDIDATE SELECTION WITH ELECTED OFFICIALS’
Meanwhile, CHP Chairman Özgür Özel made statements to Party Assembly members regarding the commission. It was learned that Özel emphasized that the 5-member commission would not have a task such as determining candidates. According to the information obtained, Özel stated, “This commission will not determine candidates. We will absolutely handle the candidate selection process with elected officials. If a commission is to be established, it will be a commission of elected officials.”
MPS AND PARTY ASSEMBLY MEMBERS WILL SERVE IN 81 PROVINCES
At the meeting, it was also decided to organize a Party Assembly meeting with a local government agenda and for CHP Secretary General Selin Sayek Böke to make preparations in this regard. In the meantime, starting next week, delegations consisting of MPs and Party Assembly members will be assigned to 81 provinces to conduct interviews with candidates. In this way, it is aimed to prevent candidates from coming to Ankara and causing congestion at the Headquarters, and to ensure that interviews are conducted on-site.
