CHP's Murat Bakan points out: Notable emphasis on religious sects regarding police appointments

CHP Deputy Chairman Murat Bakan made significant statements regarding police appointments on the program "Detayına İnelim" (Let's Get Into the Details), hosted by Damla Doğan Tuncel on SÖZCÜ TV. Bakan alleged that police chiefs have connections to religious sects.

Bakan emphasized that the existence of parallel structures within the security bureaucracy—specifically in the Police, the Turkish Armed Forces (TSK), and Intelligence—is a critical issue. He stated that this situation could create rifts within the ruling coalition. He also noted that MHP leader Devlet Bahçeli has made a statement on this matter for the first time.

Bakan said that the Kurdoğlu sect is influential within the Gendarmerie General Command and that they had previously organized within the TSK. He stated that sub-branches of the Nur sect and other groups are also influential within the police force. He expressed that while Bahçeli had remained silent on this issue, he is now speaking of a parallel structure.

Bakan claimed that during Süleyman Soylu's tenure as Minister of the Interior, four Alevi police chiefs were in office, but that Ali Yerlikaya has purged these chiefs. He alleged that Yerlikaya is protecting chiefs who come from the Nur sect and worked with Soylu.

Stating that appointments in the police force are made based on membership in sects and orders rather than merit, Bakan also expressed that MHP-leaning chiefs are being purged. He emphasized that this is a matter that requires sensitive attention regarding the structure of sects and orders within the TSK and the Police in Turkey.

Bakan stated that after the July 15 coup attempt, the government tried to establish a balance with other sects while purging FETÖ, and that he believes Bahçeli is pointing to this situation.
