CHP deputy submits parliamentary question to Yerlikaya
CHP Bursa Deputy Prof. Dr. Kayıhan Pala has asked Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya about the audits conducted on metropolitan municipalities during the 2019-2024 period.
Republican People's Party (CHP) Bursa Deputy Prof. Dr. Kayıhan Pala has brought the audits conducted on metropolitan municipalities during the 2019-2024 period to the parliamentary agenda.
There have been claims in the press that the government will accelerate audits and investigations, particularly targeting municipalities won by the CHP, starting with Istanbul.
Pala submitted a parliamentary question to the Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) for Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya to answer. In the justification for the motion, Pala recalled that Article 55 of the Municipal Law No. 5393, titled 'Scope and Types of Audit,' grants the Ministry of Interior the authority to audit administrative actions of municipalities, excluding financial transactions, in terms of compliance with the law and the integrity of the administration. In his assessment regarding the motion, Pala drew attention to reports suggesting that the number of audits in some metropolitan municipalities increased between 2019 and 2024. Pala stated that he submitted the motion to examine whether there is a correlation between the number of audits, investigations, and inspections during the period in question and the party that won the elections in those metropolitan cities.
The questions posed by CHP's Pala to Minister Yerlikaya are as follows:
“What is the number of audits conducted by your Ministry's inspectors in metropolitan municipalities by province, broken down by year, during the 2019-2024 period? What are the numbers of audit types (routine administrative audits, complaint-based audits, etc.) conducted in metropolitan municipalities by province, broken down by year, during the 2019-2024 period?”
