CHP determines candidates in 242 electoral districts following meeting
The CHP Central Executive Board (MYK) and Party Assembly (PM) met under the chairmanship of Chairman Özgür Özel. The agenda for both meetings was the March 31 local elections. Mayoral candidates for approximately 242 electoral districts were put to a vote during the meeting.
A decision was made to continue with the incumbent Metropolitan Mayors of Aydın, Hatay, Adana, and Mersin. A surprise development also occurred regarding Eskişehir Metropolitan Mayor Yılmaz Büyükerşen.
Following the voting in both the MYK and the PM, incumbent Mayor Lütfü Savaş in Hatay, incumbent Mayor Özlem Çerçioğlu in Aydın, incumbent Mayor Zeydan Karalar in Adana, and incumbent Mayor Vahap Seçer in Mersin were renominated.
Former MP Candan Yüceer was nominated for Tekirdağ Metropolitan Municipality, and Burcu Köksal was nominated for Afyonkarahisar.
DEVELOPMENTS REGARDING YILMAZ BÜYÜKERŞEN
An important development took place in Eskişehir. Yılmaz Büyükerşen, who has served as the Mayor of Eskişehir Metropolitan Municipality for 25 years, had previously announced his candidacy for the 2024 elections.
However, it was stated that Büyükerşen withdrew his candidacy at the last minute and threw his support behind Ayşe Ünlüce.
With the approval of both the MYK and the PM, Ayşe Ünlüce became the CHP's candidate for the Eskişehir Metropolitan Mayoral race.

STATEMENT ON MUHİTTİN BÖCEK
CHP Spokesperson Deniz Yücel answered questions from journalists after the meeting. Regarding the candidacy of Antalya Metropolitan Mayor Muhittin Böcek, Yücel said the following:
"Our Antalya Metropolitan Mayoral candidate was not brought to the agenda of the PM because it will be evaluated together with some central districts; I believe it will come to the agenda at the PM meeting we will hold next week. There is no other reason for this."
