CHP figure reveals: When will the Özgür Özel-Bashar al-Assad meeting take place?

CHP Chairman Özgür Özel had previously stated that he could act as a mediator between President and AKP Chairman Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Syrian President Assad, saying, "First, Assad must be persuaded to sit at the table with Turkey. I can persuade Assad to sit at the table. As long as Erdoğan has such an intention. We see from Erdoğan's latest statement that the steps we have taken here are also encouraging Erdoğan. This issue is Turkey's most pressing problem; the refugee issue is our priority." 

CHP Deputy Chairman Burhanettin Bulut had announced during a program he attended on Halk TV that the Syrian administration had accepted Özel's request for a meeting. 

'IT WILL BE CLARIFIED IN AUGUST'

Responding to questions from Samet Eker of Türkiye newspaper, İlhan Uzgel stated the following regarding the potential Syria visit by CHP leader Özgür Özel:

“Our negotiations are continuing on two fronts. We have established contact both officially and through the consulate in Istanbul via representation. Our indirect contacts will also continue. When you turn your face to the Middle East, the process works a bit slowly. After all, the Assad administration does not have full control over the country. Going to Syria is not like going to Slovenia. When we receive an invitation from Germany, the entire protocol process is clear. Our request for a meeting with the Syrian administration will be clarified in August.”
