CHP files criminal complaint against TurkStat: 'They are committing the crime of misconduct in public office'

CHP Deputy Chair Gamze Taşcıer, in a press statement made in front of the Ankara Courthouse, argued that the inflation perceived by the public differs from the inflation announced by TurkStat, and as a result, TurkStat data does not reflect the truth.

Taşcıer stated, "If TurkStat had not removed the item basket and average item prices from publication, we would be able to track the monthly prices and price increases of all products today and accurately measure the inflation that affects all salary increases. Therefore, we would have seen that the real 6-month inflation was at least 41.6 percent, not 24.73 percent."

Gamze Taşcıer, who claimed that TurkStat has the capability to calculate inflation data correctly but fails to do so, thereby causing harm to all workers, civil servants, and retirees in Turkey, said, "For these reasons, the TurkStat Board of Directors is committing the crime of misconduct in public office as defined in Article 257 of the Turkish Penal Code (TCK)."

CHP Deputy Chair Taşcıer stated that presenting information in an incomplete and misleading manner leads to a lack of transparency in economic data, adding, "For these reasons, we demand, on behalf of the great Turkish nation, that the necessary investigation be initiated against those who conceal and obscure data, mislead the public, calculate inflation incorrectly, and victimize millions of people, starting with the head of TurkStat, and that those responsible for abusing and neglecting their public duty be identified and punished."

Following her statement, Taşcıer and the party members accompanying her submitted the criminal complaint petition to the Ankara Courthouse.

CRIMINAL COMPLAINT AGAINST TURKSTAT FROM THE DIP DALGA MOVEMENT

Stating that the figures between the inflation rate announced by TurkStat and the real inflation do not reflect the truth and that the public has been deceived, the Dip Dalga Movement filed a criminal complaint against the head of TurkStat and its officials.

The statement made is as follows:

In recent days, the figures forming the inflation basket, which TurkStat had kept like a secret, have emerged, and it has come to the country's agenda as a scandal in which the public was officially deceived with figures that have no relation to reality.

With the criminal complaint prepared by our DIP DALGA MOVEMENT legal unit, we, as the movement, have filed a criminal complaint against the head of TurkStat and its officials on behalf of our nation.

On this important issue, which the opposition has not bothered to pursue, we, as the DIP DALGA MOVEMENT, have taken this scandal to the judiciary as the pioneer of this country's true social opposition.

We will be following the process...
