CHP leader Özel commemorates Uğur Mumcu at the site of his assassination: 'Cults are the perpetrators themselves'

CHP Chairman Özgür Özel attended the memorial ceremony held in front of the house where journalist and author Uğur Mumcu was assassinated 31 years ago. Following the memorial event, Özel answered questions from journalists. Regarding the Mumcu murder, Özel said the following:

"CULTS THAT HAVE INFILTRATED THE STATE ARE THE PERPETRATORS THEMSELVES"

“Today is January 24th. Thirty-one years ago, a bomb that exploded on this street attacked the values of the Republic with its destructive power. It attacked the values that make the Republic what it is, the values that make us who we are. It tore apart the body of the bravest defender of those values. However, as that body was scattered everywhere within the borders of this country, it carried its own resistance, its determination to struggle, and its light of enlightenment everywhere. Uğur Mumcu has been a burning candle for 31 years; a candle burning against the darkness. The true perpetrators of this massacre, this murder, have not been uncovered. In fact, this is a murder whose perpetrators were known before it was even committed. Whoever Uğur Mumcu wrote about in his book 'Rabıta', they are the perpetrators. Whoever he wrote about in his book 'Papa-Mafya-Ağca' regarding state-mafia relations and their international connections, they are the perpetrators. The cults that have infiltrated the state, which Uğur Mumcu fought against, are the perpetrators themselves.

For 31 years, people have been waiting for those who committed this murder to be uncovered. But some say, 'If we pull one brick, the whole wall will collapse, and we will all be left underneath it.' This expression is an expression that protects and favors the deep state. The day will come when we will pull that brick, they will all be left underneath it, and this country will be at peace from that day on.
