First comment from Karayalçın on CHP leader Özgür Özel's proposal to add two new colors to the 'Six Arrows': 'The CHP logo should be discussed within the party first'

CHP leader Özgür Özel made remarkable statements in an interview with Cumhuriyet.

Addressing current debates, Özel also said, ahead of the upcoming Statute Congress, "We are thinking of adding two colors to the statism arrow."

The expressions used by Özel before the upcoming congress led to questions such as, "Will the party logo change at the Statute Congress?"

Former SHP Chairman Murat Karayalçın evaluated CHP leader Özel's statements for 12punto.

WILL THE PARTY LOGO CHANGE?

Karayalçın interpreted the statement in question as follows: "CHP's consideration of using colors, signs, and symbols to embrace new social segments can undoubtedly be considered in terms of communication and winning over new masses. In principle, such approaches should be considered and discussed. I do not know the details of this proposal by the Chairman."

Stating that the CHP has a logo but no colors, Karayalçın said, "If the CHP's logo or colors need to be opened for discussion in line with this idea, I think it would be beneficial to do so by discussing it with the party base."

WILL IT BE ON THE AGENDA AT THE CONGRESS?

Regarding the question of whether the issue would be on the agenda at the statute congress, Karayalçın said, "This can be discussed at the Statute Congress, at any congress, or at the Party Assembly. After discussing it at the Congress and taking the inclination of the base, necessary arrangements can be made in that direction."

WILL THE STATUTE CONGRESS TURN INTO AN ELECTION CONGRESS?

Karayalçın commented on the statements that the Statute Congress, which CHP leader Özgür Özel described as "We see the process between September 4-9 as a change congress without elections," would turn into an "Election Congress" in the recent period with the following words:

"I don't think there is such a need. If an election needs to be held within the party, it is a very important issue that should be handled separately. It would not be right to turn a meeting held for another purpose into this form."

'THE STATUTE CANNOT BE DISCUSSED DIRECTLY'

Karayalçın also stated that important discussions should be held before the Statute Congress or that these discussions should be carried to the Congress, expressing that a change to be made article by article would not be appropriate.

Karayalçın said the following:

"There are very serious studies and preparations we need to make regarding the statute. There is very little time left. To be honest, I cannot fully predict whether the Statute Congress will be held as it should be with the current preparations. Very serious preliminary preparations are mandatory for an extremely important, even vital issue in my opinion. I don't think it would be very right for us to go to the Statute Congress without doing these directly, or we need to have these discussions at the Statute Congress.

The statute is the itemized form of a political and social consensus. The statute cannot be discussed directly. I am of the opinion that it would not be right to discuss the statute directly, especially to discuss the statute article by article. First, a discussion that will provide a social consensus and political consensus should be held. It may not be appropriate to address the issue of statute change article by article without those discussions being held.

We should have these discussions before the Congress or during the Congress process, and we should write the statute later according to the result of those discussions."

HOW IS THE CHP LOGO EXPLAINED IN THE STATUTE?

In the Statute accepted at the 19th Extraordinary Congress held on March 9-10, 2018, in the seventh clause of the first article of the "Foundation and Principles" section, the CHP logo was defined as, "Its abbreviated name is 'CHP'. The party has a special symbol with 'SIX ARROWS' whose form, dimensions, and quality are determined by regulation, and a flag with white 'SIX ARROWS' on a red background."

WHAT HAPPENED?

In his response to a question about the preparations for the Statute Congress, Özel had used the expressions, "We are thinking of going through a process that is the election manifesto of the CHP's power in the second century, which puts forward an important claim regarding the environment and disadvantaged groups, and opens space for women in politics. In terms of understanding, we are thinking of adding two colors to the CHP's statism arrow. Green, representing sustainable development and environmental sensitivity while governing the state, and purple, representing gender equality."
