CHP's Akdoğan makes a striking move on 'permanent daylight saving time': Calls Minister Bayraktar!

Schools reopened today after a one-week break in education.

Millions of students once again started the day in the dark due to the "permanent daylight saving time" practice.

CHP Ankara MP Umut Akdoğan made a statement on the Konya road to draw attention to the "permanent daylight saving time" practice.

Stating that the "permanent daylight saving time" practice has no contribution to the economy, Akdoğan said, "Students or employees have focus and motivation problems. There is an adaptation problem. There is a security-transportation problem. There are people who wake up early in the morning to go to work or school who have problems with their families. No one sees this. Turkey must abandon this issue as soon as possible."

After his statement, Akdoğan called Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar via video call on his mobile phone, and evaluated Bayraktar's failure to answer the phone by saying, "I am not saying why a minister hasn't woken up. I find it normal for the minister to be asleep, but I find it abnormal for these people to be waking up at the crack of dawn. I could not reach the minister on his mobile phone. But millions of people are up, and we were able to reach them."

"IT HAS NO ECONOMIC CONTRIBUTION TO US"

Akdoğan noted the following:

"Friends, I would like to say good morning to you, but if I said good morning, I would be lying to you. Because the day has not dawned yet. But the working class wakes up early. The people of Ankara, like in our other provinces, woke up and started their day. In fact, do not take this clock as a basis; the time we should take as a basis is the time when people who get into their cars, shuttles, minibuses, and buses to set off today wake up. Turkey has been facing this ordeal for about 8 years. People, and even roosters, wake up with the daylight and sleep some time after it gets dark. This had been the case in our country since 1973. But Berat Albayrak insisted on this issue, he showed a report from ITU, and there were other reports against this report. They still exist. Our professors are conducting many studies both within Turkey and abroad. It is claimed that this issue contributes to the economy. However, there is also data suggesting that it does not contribute to our country economically, and even causes harm. I am not the first to talk about this issue. I will not be the last one either. But this issue needs to be resolved as soon as possible.

It has no economic contribution to us. Let's assume it has an economic contribution like they claim. This issue affects many people, especially women and children. This has turned into a security issue on the street. This is harming children pedagogically. It is even harming our educational life. Look, because they could not solve this issue, they reduced class hours from 40 minutes to 30 minutes in public schools with double-shift education. They want students to come as quickly as possible, do the 40-minute lesson in 30 minutes, and leave. Because they moved the start time of the lesson to 8 o'clock. Let them come at 8, leave at noon. So that those who come at noon can leave before it gets dark... They put the child who does 30 minutes of class and the child who does 40 minutes of class into the same exam. They subject them to the same treatment.

There is something called a biological clock, no one sees this. Students or employees have focus and motivation problems. No one sees this. There is an adaptation problem, no one sees this. There is a security-transportation problem, no one sees this. There are people who wake up early in the morning to go to work or school who have problems with their families. No one sees this. Turkey must abandon this issue as soon as possible. Furthermore, we have a time difference with Europe. This affects the stock market, this affects the banking system, this affects flights. Therefore, it has an economic harm. It has a social harm. At the same time, there is a situation that also increases electricity consumption."

THE MINISTER DID NOT ANSWER THE PHONE

After his statement, Umut Akdoğan called Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar via video call on his mobile phone. Akdoğan said, "People going to work in the morning do not turn on their headlights. If the minister answers the phone when I call, I will explain the situation; if he cannot answer, he will come to the Planning and Budget Committee at 11 o'clock today, and I will share these images with him there."

Regarding Bayraktar not answering the phone, Akdoğan noted the following:

"The minister did not answer my phone. It is very natural, he might not have woken up. I do not find this strange. I am not saying why a minister hasn't woken up. I find it normal for the minister to be asleep, but I find it abnormal for these people to be waking up at the crack of dawn.
