CHP's Bulut asks Minister Memişoğlu about 'Mpox': 'Do you have an action plan?'
CHP Deputy Chairman Burhanettin Bulut has submitted 7 questions for Health Minister Kemal Memişoğlu to answer regarding the Mpox virus, for which the World Health Organization has declared a global health emergency.
CHP Deputy Chairman Burhanettin Bulut has submitted a parliamentary question to the Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey for Health Minister Kemal Memişoğlu to answer regarding the Mpox virus, which the World Health Organization has declared a public health emergency.
Bulut pointed out that the number of reported cases in 2024 has exceeded 14 thousand, that 524 people have lost their lives due to the disease, and that the number of cases has already surpassed the total for last year. Bulut stated, “The virus is transmitted through contact with the fluids of an infected person or animal, oral and nasal secretions, or by using clothing, bed sheets, towels, and similar items contaminated with fluids from rashes. While the disease is spreading rapidly, Memişoğlu’s statement that 'We do not have an alarm situation at the moment' is increasing concerns.”
ASKED ABOUT ACTION PLAN AND VACCINES
Bulut directed the following questions to Health Minister Kemal Memişoğlu for him to answer:
Does your Ministry have any action plan against a potential Mpox outbreak?
Are there any vaccines available for Mpox in our country? What is the total number of vaccines? Which vaccines are these?
Have any vaccine orders been placed against the risk of the disease appearing? From which country, and how many vaccines have been ordered?
Are there any drugs available for the treatment of the disease? Which drugs are these?
Have any measures been taken at border crossings?
Will you have any efforts to inform the public and healthcare workers about the disease?
Has Mpox been detected in our country as of the date this motion is answered?
HE HAD SAID 'THERE IS NO ALARM SITUATION'
Health Minister Memişoğlu met with Ankara representatives of media organizations yesterday and said in his statement, "We are following the developments regarding Mpox and COVID-19. However, there is no alarm situation for us at the moment."
