CHP MP Yunus Emre makes agenda-setting claim about that journalist: 'She was in the WikiLeaks documents'

Republican People's Party (CHP) Istanbul MP Yunus Emre has made striking allegations about journalist Nuray Başaran in a statement posted on his social media account. Claiming that Başaran's name appears in numerous American diplomatic documents, Emre stated that these documents are available on the WikiLeaks platform.

Yunus Emre said, "Those who are curious can access these documents online. But let me say this: the contacts the lady established with US diplomatic mission officials seem to have far exceeded the boundaries of journalism."

Using the phrase, 'Are you ready to lift the veil and see the truth behind the absolute nullity scandal?', Emre wrote the following:

“In this case study, I will summarize the activities of the journalist who talks the most about the CHP Congress and explain why the allegations against our Congress have origins from across the ocean. This journalist's name is Nuray Başaran, and she has been making statements about the CHP Congress for almost a year and a half. And what statements they are. It's almost like a live broadcast from the prosecutor's office. The narrative of suspicion regarding the CHP Congress starts with this lady and grows like a snowball with claims of confidential information accessed from the prosecutor's office. As it grows, it catches my attention and I focus on her.

“DOZENS OF AMERICAN DOCUMENTS FEATURING HER NAME ARE ON WIKILEAKS”

After her statements, I learn that Nuray Başaran was the Ankara representative of Akşam Newspaper in the 2000s. I think to myself, how could I not know a journalist who held such an important position as Ankara representative? When I go online, I realize that Ms. Başaran has not been seen for years and has tried to make people forget her name. When I follow the question of why this might be, I come across a statement by Yiğit Bulut about Nuray Başaran. Bulut says: “If a journalist is meeting with the US consulate on a routine weekly basis and is the Ankara representative of a newspaper, and is providing information to consulate officials, this is not journalism, it falls under espionage activities, and the necessary action for this is taken by Prosecutors”. As I continue to pull the thread, I remember the WikiLeaks documents and sit in front of my computer screen, and oh my God, what do I see? Dozens of American documents featuring Nuray Başaran's name are on WikiLeaks. Those interested can access these documents online, but I can say this much: the lady's contacts with US diplomatic mission officials are far beyond journalistic activities. I do not want to make Ms. Başaran a target by providing the texts here, but I understand very well why she has wanted to be forgotten for years. We are talking about a person who, according to the cables, even shared information about the private lives of politicians with foreigners. Cliques within the AKP, information about the TSK (Turkish Armed Forces), special accounts regarding Turkish-Russian relations. And much more. As I read the documents, I conclude that she was an important source for foreigners regarding Turkey's domestic and foreign policy.

“SHE WAS AMONG ZEKERİYA ÖZ’S WITNESSES”

So, I look at what Ms. Başaran has done besides providing information to foreigners. Oh, what do I see? She gave testimony in the Ergenekon trials, first as a secret witness and then as an open witness. She was among Zekeriya Öz's witnesses against innocent people, including our CHP MP Tuncay Özkan. Again, according to the Istanbul Bar Association's report, she was such a valued witness that the defendants were not allowed to question her, and questions could only be directed in writing with the permission of the judges. While I was thinking that this was enough, I come across these lines about the lady in Tuncay Özkan's book “Ergenekon: Top Secret Organization”: “One Sunday in 2003, a woman comes to the MİT (National Intelligence Organization) headquarters in Yenimahalle. She gets out of her car, raises her hands, and says, 'I have come to surrender.' The MİT officers are surprised, 'Who are you, are you a foreigner?' 'No, I am Turkish,' the woman says. 'Why are you surrendering?' 'Kunstadter is going to hand me over to MOSSAD, help me.' The relevant people know who the official named Kunstadter is. But one cannot help but ask, what does an ordinary journalist have to do with MİT, CIA, and MOSSAD? While wondering why the same person is involved in these dark affairs, I come across news about the friendship between this lady and Richard Perle, whom Uğur Mumcu referred to as the Prince of Darkness. There is more, there is more, there is more. But let me stop here, I don't want to tire you out.

“LET HER DO WHATEVER SHE WANTS IN THE WORLD OF ESPIONAGE”

I have only one question: why is this journalist, who becomes more intriguing the more one learns about her, making such active efforts regarding the CHP Congress? Why did she suddenly appear with an agenda regarding the CHP Congress after all these years? Why do judicial authorities share information about the file with this lady when there are so many journalists around? Let her do whatever she wants in the world of espionage she knows. Let her be a witness in any case she wants, including the Ergenekon trials. It is her own choice. In any case, her application to be an AKP MP in the past is also visible in the WikiLeaks documents. Ultimately, she is not one of us, she is not someone who concerns us. While wondering what such a person wants from the CHP, I read in the news that she provided consultancy to our party in the 2021-2022 period and received a fee of 1.6 million TL in return. No way, right? While wondering why we would have utilized the services of a person who testified in the Ergenekon trials, where many innocent people including CHP MPs like Mustafa Balbay, Tuncay Özkan, and Mehmet Haberal were imprisoned, I learn that the lady in question has also visited our party building many times in the past.

Anyway, let me stop here. This lady continues her broadcasts about our party and our congress, which she started on AHaber before the local elections, in a comprehensive manner on TGRT. Let her continue, it is her right. It is a business we have been accustomed to since the Mustafa Sagir case. We are immune to it. I wish her and her cohorts on the program success in their work, but I cannot help but think about the real reason for these people's efforts to design our party. I will suffice by saying that those who are wise will understand...”
