CHP reacts to party congress lawsuit and operations: 'They want to make chaos permanent'
CHP officials argue that the lawsuit regarding the party congress and the successive operations targeting municipalities are part of a deliberate government strategy, commenting, "They want people to talk about the CHP day and night. This is political agenda engineering."
The lawsuit filed with the demand for the cancellation of the 38th Ordinary Congress of the CHP was heard at the Ankara 28th Civil Court of First Instance and adjourned to September 8. Following the congress lawsuit, another development that drew attention was the series of operations conducted against municipalities.
Following the detention and arrest decisions made in the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality as well as many CHP-run district municipalities, the recent large-scale operation conducted against the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality has sparked harsh reactions within the CHP.
CHP OFFICIALS: "THEY WANT TO KEEP THE CHP UNDER CONSTANT DISCUSSION"
According to the report by Sarp Sağkal from Cumhuriyet, high-level CHP figures evaluated this process not only as a judicial matter but also as a political strategy. Party officials commented on the events with the following expressions:
"They are trying to make chaos a routine. The government wants people to talk about something related to the CHP day and night. Because they do not want the real problems in the country—inflation, the cost-of-living crisis for retirees, and civil servant salary hikes—to be on the agenda. That is why they come at us with different pressures every day."
"WE ARE FACING A STRUCTURE THAT VIEWS THE ELECTION AS A MILESTONE"
CHP Deputy Chairman Gökan Zeybek also made remarkable statements regarding both the congress process and the corruption operations. Emphasizing that they have submitted numerous corruption files from the AKP era in Ankara and Istanbul to the prosecutors, but that no progress has been made, Zeybek said:
"We see the local elections we won as a responsibility. However, we are facing a structure that views March 31 as a milestone and does not look back at what came before. The judiciary is only dealing with us. With this double standard, they are sabotaging both political competition and justice."
