CHP reacts to trustee appointments

Esenyurt Mayor Prof. Dr. Ahmet Özer has been released by the court in the case concerning terrorism charges brought against him. Özer, who was elected by the votes of the public, had sparked intense reactions in the public eye and within the CHP since the day he was arrested. Following the release decision issued at the hearing held in Silivri today, all eyes turned to the statements from the CHP.

"THE BLOW TO THE WILL OF THE PEOPLE HAS BACKFIRED"

CHP Istanbul Provincial Chair Özgür Çelik made a notable statement on his social media account following the release decision. Stating that he followed the hearing in person, Çelik said, "The fact that our mayor was unjustly imprisoned has been registered by the release decision given by the court today."

Çelik emphasized that Şişli Mayor Resul Emrah Şahan and other mayors who were removed from office and arrested within the scope of the Istanbul Alliance should also be released immediately. Showing a sharp reaction to the trustee appointments, Çelik used the following expressions:

"It is absurd that our professor Ahmet remains imprisoned even though everyone knows he will emerge completely clean from the other file in which he was arrested based on slander.

All our friends who are imprisoned due to the Istanbul Alliance, starting with our Şişli Mayor, must be released immediately.

With this release decision, the legitimacy of the Istanbul Alliance has been registered.

The trustees appointed to our Esenyurt and Şişli municipalities had no meaning, and now they have no justification left.

The usurpation of the public will and the captivity of our mayors must end immediately."

GÜNAYDIN: "CAN THERE BE A CASE BASED ON 74 PHONE CALLS?"

CHP Group Deputy Chair Gökhan Günaydın also argued in his assessment after the hearing that the case was constructed on a political foundation and has collapsed.

''Today it was seen that this case has completely collapsed. They asked about 74 phone calls. We are people who engage in politics in Mersin. At that time, he was a vice-rector. We exchanged ideas. We also listened to a lunatic who should not have testified under the Criminal Procedure Code (CMK). He continued to slander from where he was imprisoned.

Since October 3, Esenyurt has been governed by a district governor and a council consisting of three civil servants. This is not a situation that aligns with democracy."
