CHP responds to internal criticism over candidate selection
CHP officials responded to the crisis and criticism surrounding the candidate selection process by saying, "Every birth is painful."
The repercussions of resignations and ongoing debates within the CHP, which determined its mayoral candidates for the March 31, 2024, local elections, continue.
Some members of parliament who were excluded from the candidate selection process argued that the new administration has not fulfilled the promises made during the party congress.
Pointing to Özgür Özel's statement before the congress, "There will be no settling of scores with the previous administration. Primaries will be held," some MPs and former party officials assessed that "a situation contrary to what was promised at the congress emerged during the candidate nomination process."
According to a report by Sarp Sağkal from Cumhuriyet, the new CHP administration responded to the criticisms with the words, "Every birth is painful."
Stating that the party has nominated new and young names alongside the change, the officials said, "Our promise of primaries was for parliamentary elections, and we will fulfill that. The party is preparing its new generation with young candidates, and we trust our candidates. Apart from this, criticism and debates within the party occur in every election process. However, there is little time left until the elections, and all party members need to work together for the party's success. What matters is not the names, but the party and the party's success." they said.
