The second session of the October meetings of the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) Assembly was held at the presidential building in Saraçhane, under the chairmanship of the Assembly's 2nd Deputy Speaker Gencay Özcan.
Taking the floor during off-agenda speeches, IMM Assembly Member and Chairman of the Plan and Budget Commission, CHP's Ahmet Oğuz Demir, made evaluations regarding the fund crisis debates.
Demir stated that Turkey is going through a difficult period, particularly in the economy, and said that politics should create common ground during such times.
He expressed that hope can be given to society not through "fancy sentences," but through the right steps taken at the right time.
Criticizing the AK Party group's approach to the fund crisis, Demir recalled that topics such as morality in politics, clean politics, and the protection of public resources were brought to the agenda in the previous session. Demir conveyed that it was said there are three paths before a politician in difficult times: "brushing the issue aside," "attacking the opponent," and "turning to oneself first and taking responsibility."
Yesterday I saw that there is also a fourth path. That fourth path is; pretending to turn to oneself and take responsibility, while actually attacking the opponent.
Demir also reacted to the evaluations targeting the CHP in the fund crisis debate. Saying, "If the agenda is the fund crisis, then excuse me," Demir used the expressions, "Do not go for words like 'but you should also behave this way, do not compete in wrongdoings.' We are not partners in this wrongdoing. We also have no wrongdoing to compete with."
Emphasizing in his speech that politics should also involve the masses it represents in the solution of problems, Demir described the process experienced as a "great trauma" and recalled the proverb, "One misfortune is worth a thousand pieces of advice."
