CHP's IMM Assembly move: Group balances to be discussed against potential political ban ruling
It is reported that the CHP is preparing for meetings to solidify its arithmetic in the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) Assembly against a potential political ban ruling in the İmamoğlu case.
It has been alleged that the CHP leadership has placed the balances within the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) Assembly on its agenda in response to a potential political ban ruling in the "idiot" case involving Ekrem İmamoğlu, which is currently before the Court of Cassation.
According to behind-the-scenes information, the party leadership is preparing to hold separate meetings with CHP council members in anticipation of a potential mayoral election that could come to the agenda in the IMM Assembly should such a ruling be finalized.
It was claimed that the meetings would be organized under the instruction of Chairman Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu and that CHP IMM council members would be given the message to "choose your side."
ASSEMBLY ARITHMETIC IS CRITICAL
According to a report by Berat Temiz from Türkiye Gazetesi, Party Spokesperson Müslim Sarı will meet separately with CHP municipal council members from Istanbul's three electoral districts on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday at the CHP İstanbul Provincial Headquarters.
It was reported that Sarı is also expected to meet face-to-face with IMM Deputy Mayor Nuri Aslan either tomorrow or on Friday before these meetings.
In the IMM Assembly, the CHP has 155 members, while the AK Party has 136. However, the fact that some individuals elected from CHP lists who are said to be close to the DEM Party are also within the CHP group makes the balances significant in a potential election.
In CHP circles, attention is also drawn to the position of IMM Deputy Mayor Nuri Aslan. In the report, assessments attributed to CHP staff included the following: "Mr. Nuri is currently the Deputy Mayor in the CHP. He cannot say, 'The IMM will be lost, leave us alone.' In this situation, he has to cooperate with us."
It is stated that with these meetings, the party leadership aims to clarify the stance within the assembly group and reduce the risk of defections before a potential mayoral election.
