CHP Spokesperson Müslim Sarı reacted to the election of AKP candidate Serdar Orhan as acting mayor of Ataşehir in a statement made on his social media account.
Sarı stated that they won Ataşehir in the March 31 local elections with 139 thousand votes and 56.39 percent support, noting that the arithmetic in the municipal council changed after 6 municipal council members elected from the CHP lists switched to the AKP.
Reminding in his statement that Ataşehir Acting Mayor Murat Güneş was arrested, Sarı announced that the CHP Group had decided not to participate in the acting mayoral election in order "not to be a tool in this game."

Arguing that the election was not legitimate, Sarı said, "An election based on changing the will expressed by the people at the ballot box through these methods is not legitimate. The election held today is a clear usurpation of the will of the people of Ataşehir."
Sarı concluded his statement with the words, "The will of Ataşehir belongs to the people of Ataşehir. The Republican People's Party will win Ataşehir back in the first election to be held."
