Criminal complaint from CHP's Yavuzyılmaz against Binali Yıldırım: 42 vehicles used in election campaign
CHP's Deniz Yavuzyılmaz has filed a criminal complaint with the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office regarding 42 vehicles allocated to AKP candidate Binali Yıldırım before the 2019 Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) elections. It was alleged that the HGS-OGS toll expenses for the vehicles were also covered by the IMM budget.
CHP Deputy Chairman and Zonguldak MP Deniz Yavuzyılmaz stated that during the period when the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) was under AKP administration, 42 municipal vehicles were allocated to the AKP's Istanbul candidate Binali Yıldırım for his 2019 local election campaign.
Yavuzyılmaz announced that they have turned the statements he shared a week ago on his social media account X with the words "This is a report" into an official criminal complaint with the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office.
LICENSE PLATES AND VEHICLE LIST ADDED TO THE PETITION
CHP's Yavuzyılmaz, along with his lawyer Bülent Yücetürk, filed a criminal complaint against the public officials serving at the IMM at that time, the executives of the AKP Istanbul Provincial Presidency, and Binali Yıldırım on charges of "misconduct in office." The license plates and types of the vehicles allegedly allocated were added to the petition one by one.
Yavuzyılmaz called on the prosecutor's office to take action, saying, "Come on, take action and let's see!"
NOT ONLY VEHICLES, BUT ALSO TOLL FEES FROM THE MUNICIPALITY
The criminal complaint stated that not only were the vehicles allocated, but the HGS and OGS fees used for highway tolls throughout the 2019 election campaign were also covered by the IMM budget. It was emphasized that this situation meant that public resources were used for personal campaigns.
ALLEGATIONS OF "MISCONDUCT IN OFFICE" AND "VIOLATION OF THE LAW ON POLITICAL PARTIES"
The petition stated that the transactions in question were contrary to Article 66 of the Law on Political Parties No. 2820 and Article 257/1 of the Turkish Penal Code, and requested that a public lawsuit be filed against the individuals involved.
Yavuzyılmaz had previously announced that 59 vehicles were allocated to the AKP Istanbul Provincial Presidency.
