CHP's response to Erdoğan on '50+1': 'His only concern is to protect his seat'
CHP Spokesperson Deniz Yücel, in a statement following the Central Executive Board (MYK) meeting, responded to AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's remarks that 'it would be appropriate to change the 50+1 percent requirement.'
The CHP Central Executive Board (MYK) met under the chairmanship of Chairman Özgür Özel with the local elections on the agenda.
Following the meeting, CHP Spokesperson Deniz Yücel made statements regarding the MYK agenda.
"WE WILL APPLY DEMOCRATIC METHODS WHEN DETERMINING OUR CANDIDATES"
In his statement, Yücel said, "In the upcoming local elections, we will again enter the elections with mayoral candidates who share the people's concerns and produce solutions to the people's problems. Participatory, inclusive, and democratic methods will be applied when determining our candidates."
RESPONSE TO ERDOĞAN'S 50+1 REMARK
Addressing Erdoğan's statement that "it would be appropriate to change the 50+1 requirement," Yücel noted the following:
"Erdoğan's only concern is to sit in that seat for as long as he lives. May God grant him a long life, but we can easily say that he has reached the end of his political life. He sees this too, as with his statement yesterday, he can easily abandon the 50+1 regulation, which he insisted on defending and described as a revolution in the 2017 referendum."
Mr. Erdoğan's concern is to protect his seat, not to solve the people's problems. It is the bankruptcy of the system; our people are already in a state of bankruptcy, but we have experienced in the recent past that a Presidential Government System without checks and balances has no benefit to our country. They have entered into a position change to protect his position.
"We are also wondering here; how do Mr. Devlet Bahçeli and MHP officials view this event? It is clear that there is a very serious crisis in the People's Alliance."
