Claim: 'Imported doctor' project from Syria! 'Will you bring them to Turkey and entrust the lives and health of the Turkish people to them?'

İYİ Party Deputy Chairman Prof. Dr. Taner Demirer has claimed that there is no obstacle to Syrians who graduated from the Çobanbey Faculty of Medicine, established by the University of Health Sciences in the Al-Rai district of Aleppo in 2021, working in Turkey.

Demirer asked, “They are trying to make Syrian Arabs into doctors in a slapdash manner with token exams. Will you bring these so-called medical doctors to Turkey and entrust the lives and health of the Turkish people to them?

"ARE YOU GOING TO TRAIN SYRIAN ARABS AND MAKE THEM SO-CALLED DOCTORS?"

Demirer’s assessments are as follows:

“The purpose of establishing the Çobanbey Faculty of Medicine is persistently aimed at making Syrians into medical doctors. An outdated written exam and interview method is being used for admission to the faculties. Will your conscience not ache at all when you admit students to the faculty with high school diplomas whose validity has not been confirmed and graduate them as doctors?

“While many medical faculties in our country lack sufficient and qualified faculty members, and a biochemistry specialist is forced to teach anatomy, which faculty members will you send to Çobanbey to train Syrian Arabs and make them so-called doctors?

“They are trying to make Syrian Arabs into doctors in a slapdash manner with token exams. Will you bring these so-called medical doctors to Turkey and entrust the lives and health of the Turkish people to them? Is the life of the Turkish people that cheap? These individuals, whose cultures do not match ours at all and who cannot speak Turkish properly, should not be employed as doctors in our country.”

"THE PRIORITY SHOULD BE CLOSING THE DOCTOR SHORTAGE"

Suggesting that the Council of Higher Education (YÖK) and the University of Health Sciences should stop trying to make Syrian Arabs into doctors, İYİ Party Deputy Chairman Demirer said, “First, they should put effort into raising the level of education in medical faculties at universities in our country and closing the shortage of faculty members. The primary goal of the Republic of Turkey should be to train its own brilliant children who rank in the top 20 thousand among millions of students in university entrance exams and close the doctor shortage.”
