Claim that 'Murat Kurum does not trust Erdoğan'! 'We learned two things from his assets...'

There are only a few days left until the local elections.

Following the disclosure of assets by ABB Mayor Mansur Yavaş, other mayoral candidates have also declared their assets one after another.

Sözcü columnist Deniz Zeyrek, meanwhile, directed questions to the AKP's Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality mayoral candidate Murat Kurum regarding his declared assets.

The relevant section of Zeyrek's article titled "Difficult questions for Kurum?" is as follows:

We learned two things from Kurum's assets:

1- He does not trust Finance Minister Mehmet Şimşek, the Central Bank, and most importantly, President Tayyip Erdoğan. That is why he and his immediate family keep their cash assets in foreign currency and gold (Kurum, who has only 200 thousand liras in his cash account, reportedly has 3 million 300 thousand liras worth of gold, 55 thousand dollars, and 40 thousand Euros).

2- Eight months ago, Kurum bought a house in Kağıthane for 22 million liras (846 thousand dollars at the exchange rate of that day - 28 million liras at today's rate). He paid 8 million liras for the house and took on a debt of 14 million liras in his wife's name.

Now let's reason and ask questions regarding these two points.

- My question regarding the first point is to Mehmet Şimşek: Why should the public listen to you when your own man does not?

- My questions regarding the second point are to Murat Kurum:

1- Was the project where you bought the residence built on land transferred by TOKİ, which was under your authority when you were the Minister of Environment and Urbanization in 2020?

2- Was an Environmental Impact Assessment report required for the housing project in question? If it was required, who signed the "Positive" report?

3- You and your wife were working as salaried public officials. It is understood that you acquired all of your properties after 2018, when you became a Minister. How do you explain the imbalance between your working period and salaries, and the real estate and current cash/gold assets you have purchased?

4- Your wife is a RTÜK executive, and you receive a member of parliament's salary. Even if you are elected Mayor, your income will be a maximum of 200 thousand liras. How long do you intend to take to pay off the 14 million lira debt, and with what income?
