Claims of sale to a third country in the S-400 file: Process clarified during Erdoğan-Putin meeting

A new development has reportedly occurred regarding the S-400 air defense system file, which has long been on the agenda in Turkey's relations with Washington. According to information based on security sources, it is stated that the process regarding the sale of the systems purchased from Russia to a third country has reached the final stage.

As reported by Oda tv, the matter was discussed during the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Summit in Kyrgyzstan, which President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan also attended, and an agreement was reached on a solution along the Ankara-Moscow line. However, no official statement has been made regarding which country the systems will be transferred to.

News regarding the sale of the S-400s to a third country had also come to the agenda following the NATO Summit held in Ankara on July 7-8. During this process, the United Arab Emirates had emerged as one of the potential buyer countries.

The S-400 issue is seen as one of the critical topics regarding Turkey's F-35 program and its defense relations with the US. It was stated that US President Donald Trump gave positive messages to Turkey regarding the F-35s at the NATO Summit. If the sales process is clarified, it is assessed that a new era could begin in the defense agenda between Ankara and Washington.
