Commentary on İmamoğlu from famous pollster: If he wins Istanbul, he will become President in 2028

Turkey will head to the polls for local elections on March 31, 2024. Istanbul is at the top of the list of cities where the local elections are most anticipated.

CHP has nominated the current Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu as its candidate again. It is awaited with curiosity which name AKP will nominate against İmamoğlu.

AKP TO ANNOUNCE IMM CANDIDATE ON JANUARY 7

While AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan announced that he would reveal his party's Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality mayoral candidate on January 7, MetroPoll Research Company founder and director Özer Sencar made a noteworthy assessment regarding İmamoğlu.

NOTABLE COMMENTARY ON İMAMOĞLU FROM ÖZER SENCAR

Speaking to Turkey Recap, Sencar stated that the most important result in the local elections will once again come from Istanbul, and that he believes whoever wins "will determine the political scene in a way that will be effective for a quarter of a century." 

"If İmamoğlu wins, he will most likely win the presidential election to be held in 2028, and the president of the next 20 years will emerge," said Sencar, predicting that in the other scenario, Erdoğan would likely remain President for the rest of his life and many political actors would withdraw from the political scene.

'DEM PARTY WILL PLAY A KEY ROLE'

Sencar also assessed that the DEM Party will play a key role in the elections planned for March. Sencar stated that if DEM conducts a serious campaign with effective candidates, it could cause CHP to lose a significant number of municipalities. 

Sencar stated, "There is no remarkable change in the votes of AKP, CHP, MHP, and DEM Party. It would not be a surprise to see a remarkable decrease in IYI Party."
