Communist Mayor Maçoğlu: 'Our organization's perspective is to continue with the TKP'

Tunceli's Communist Mayor Fatih Mehmet Maçoğlu made statements on Halk TV regarding the candidacy discussions.

Maçoğlu said, "For a long time, I have been nominated in 5-10 provinces in Turkey without my knowledge. A decision was made to extend my term for another period. This is, of course, very important regardless of where it happens."

"NO SPECIFIC LOCATION HAS BEEN DETERMINED YET"

Responding to Gözde Şeker's question regarding the candidacy rumors, 'East or West?', Maçoğlu said, "Such a discussion is ongoing. Rest assured, none of what I have said is about hiding anything or anything else. We may be discussing 10-15 places in our internal deliberations, but nothing like 'this place is certain' or 'it must be this place' has happened yet. We are conducting good discussions with socialist parties."

"WE WILL CONTINUE WITH THE COMMUNIST PARTY OF TURKEY"

Responding to Barış Terkoğlu's question, 'Which party will you be a candidate for?', Maçoğlu stated, "I had answered with a more comprehensive statement while speaking with Ferit Bey. However, a portion of what we said was probably forgotten. Our organization's general perspective is to continue with the Communist Party of Turkey (TKP). No other discussion is ongoing. We are still holding alliance discussions, and our negotiations are going very well. Our organization has a tendency to continue with the current party regarding this matter. And no other discussion has been on the table."

"WE ARE ESTABLISHING FRIENDLY RELATIONS"

Discussing the level of relations with other political parties, Maçoğlu said, "We are establishing warm relations with all friendly organizations. We are building friendly relations with the TİP, the Left Party, Halkevi, and the EMEP. In a period where poverty puts people in such a difficult situation and living conditions are so poor, socialists and progressives need to take responsibility in this process. We attach great importance to this."

"WE HAVE NEVER EXPERIENCED A DISAGREEMENT OR CONTRADICTION"

Maçoğlu continued as follows:

"Socialists must take responsibility in these matters. This is a necessity. The course of the country is very bad; we are all worried. The poor of this country are suffering great hardships. We are acting with the awareness of this responsibility. That is why our relations with our friendly organizations are going very well. I have been serving as mayor for 10 years as part of the Communist Party of Turkey (TKP) and the Federation of Socialist Assemblies (SMF). We have never experienced a single disagreement or contradiction. This is something very valuable. In this sense, we are trying to be careful about this."

"THERE IS A VERY WELL-EQUIPPED SOCIALIST-COMMUNIST POLITICS IN THIS COUNTRY"

Regarding the question, 'Why are Kadıköy or Marmaris being discussed instead of continuing in Tunceli?', Maçoğlu used the following expressions:

"Sometimes friends ask me this, and I don't know either. For the last two years, I have been a mayoral candidate in a different place every month. There is really no such situation. It is a discussion about society's wishes regarding us or where they want to see us. This gives me great happiness. There is a very well-equipped socialist-communist politics in this country. Even though attempts are made to measure it by vote percentages, there is a memory accumulated since the 1970s. It has also sparked excitement in the whole society. For example, I recently opened a cooperative in Samsun. I encountered an incredible crowd. You look and see that we are welcomed by large crowds everywhere we go. We also carried out a very sincere, selfless, and dedicated effort during the earthquake. Everyone has a great deal of effort here, and let me say this; it is being discussed in Dersim. Our organization is continuing these discussions both in Dersim and in different parts of Turkey."
