Congratulatory phone call from Özgür Özel to Ilham Aliyev
CHP leader Özgür Özel held a meeting with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev. During the phone call, Özel congratulated the Azerbaijani people on Victory Day.
Republican People's Party (CHP) Chairman Özgür Özel spoke on the phone with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev.
During the call, CHP leader Özel congratulated Aliyev and the people of Azerbaijan on 'Victory Day' on the occasion of the 4th anniversary of Azerbaijan's victory in the Karabakh war.
"WE REJOICED AS IF OUR OWN LAND HAD BEEN LIBERATED"
Boasting that Turkey supported the Karabakh operation with all its 'might,' Özel stated, "We rejoiced at the liberation of Nagorno-Karabakh as if our own land had been liberated." Özel said that he views the children of the Azerbaijani soldiers who lost their lives in the operation as 'his own children.'
CHP leader Özel also thanked Aliyev for holding the celebrations on November 8, despite the war being won by Azerbaijan on November 10, due to the date coinciding with the anniversary of the death of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the founder of the Republic of Turkey.
Özgür Özel stated that the Republican People's Party has always advocated that it should be Azerbaijan's primary friend, emphasizing that they have defended Azerbaijan's rights at Socialist International and Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe meetings.
POSITIVE RESPONSE TO MEETING REQUEST IN BAKU
CHP leader Özel conveyed his wish to visit Azerbaijani President Aliyev in Baku, accompanied by former CHP Chairman Hikmet Çetin, to discuss the contributions the Republican People's Party can offer to further develop relations between the two countries.
Azerbaijani President Aliyev stated that relations with the Republican People's Party have changed in a positive direction during Özel's chairmanship. Expressing his gratitude for the Republican People's Party's defense of Azerbaijan's rights at the Council of Europe and on international platforms, Aliyev noted that both they and the Azerbaijani people are aware of this.
Stating that they wish to develop good relations with the Republican People's Party, which was founded by Atatürk, Aliyev indicated that he would be pleased to host Özel and Çetin in Baku.
