Could not provide a percentage! Statement on Istanbul and Ankara from AKP's Şahin
AKP Secretary General Fatih Şahin made assessments regarding his party's situation in Istanbul and Ankara. Şahin stated that they are ahead in Ankara and that they will 'cross the finish line first' in the final stretch in Istanbul.
With 16 days left until the local elections, polling companies continue to publish new results.
While the average of the last 17 polls in Istanbul shows Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu leading by 1.5 points, reports indicate that the margin is wider in Ankara.
AKP Secretary General Fatih Şahin, however, claimed during a television program he attended that his party is ahead in Ankara. Şahin also said that they would cross the finish line first in Istanbul.
THE LATEST SITUATION IN ISTANBUL
Şahin said the following regarding Istanbul:
“If we think of campaigns as a marathon, we are a party that has always run the final stretch of the marathon very well, competed well, and crossed the finish line first. We see our situation in Istanbul this way as well. Since the day Mr. Murat Kurum was announced, he has sparked great enthusiasm and excitement in Istanbul. His competence, his expertise, especially the fact that he is one of the most prominent names in Turkey when it comes to urban transformation, and the fact that he is moving forward with determination on his own work outside of the dynamics have put us in a very advantageous position in Istanbul.”
HE SAID "WE ARE AHEAD IN ANKARA" BUT COULD NOT PROVIDE A PERCENTAGE
Stating that they saw Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Mansur Yavaş ahead before the People's Alliance candidate Turgut Altınok was announced in Ankara, Şahin claimed that Altınok surpassed Yavaş after his candidacy was announced and said the following:
“As someone who has experienced the last 15-16 Ankara elections and has been at the center of them, I want to say this: This campaign has been the election in which we have covered the most ground, covered ground the fastest, and increased our votes the fastest in Ankara. Because every election has a different mood, a different atmosphere. It was more or less clear that Mansur Yavaş would be a candidate. There was no answer to the question, 'Will he be the candidate of the 'Nation Alliance' or the CHP?' Because the AK Party's candidate had not been announced, we could see that he was ahead against the AK Party candidate, against the People's Alliance candidate. But with the announcement of Turgut Altınok, a brand name in municipalism, on January 18, we saw in the polls we conducted afterward that it came to a neck-and-neck race. In the 1 to 1.5 months that have passed, we have really covered a lot of ground very quickly. We can see from today that the situation in the field and in the measurements taken is not at all as they say, that we are ahead as of today, and that if we continue to work with this momentum in the next 15 days, we will complete the election in a much, much better place.
I will not say how many points it is, so as not to cause complacency among our organizations and our devoted voters. But I have said it in the past as well. We are ahead in Ankara. It is very clear that we are ahead. However, we are not taking our foot off the gas. We are continuing our work at full speed. I can say that we will finish ahead in a surprising and beautiful way.”
