The Court of Cassation had rejected it: HEDEP's new abbreviation has been determined

The Court of Cassation, which had issued a notification for the change of HEDEP due to its similarity to the closed HADEP, has seen the party change its abbreviation to DEM Party.

According to a report by Ceren Bayar from Gazete Duvar, while a charter congress was held over the weekend for the abbreviation change, no changes were made to the party's full name. The word 'democracy' in the party name was abbreviated, and the new abbreviation for the Peoples' Equality and Democracy Party was determined as DEM Party.

WHAT HAPPENED?

The HDP participated in the elections with the Green Left Party due to the closure case pending at the Constitutional Court.

At the congress held after the elections, it was decided that the party's new name would be the Peoples' Equality and Democracy Party and its abbreviation would be HEDEP. However, this decision was rejected by the Court of Cassation. The Court of Cassation concluded that the short name determined as HEDEP, while not identical, showed a similarity to the short name of HADEP, which was closed in 1991, and was conducive to the two parties being confused with each other.

The decision was notified to HEDEP, and the party was requested to change the abbreviation.
