Court of Cassation rejects HEDEP name: The reasoning has emerged

The Court of Cassation did not accept the name change of the Greens and Left Future Party (Green Left Party) to the Peoples' Equality and Democracy Party (HEDEP).

According to the report in BirGün; the Court of Cassation rejected the name on the grounds that the abbreviation HEDEP resembles the previously closed People's Democracy Party (HADEP), arguing that this similarity is contrary to the Law on Political Parties.

In the letter sent to HEDEP, it was requested that the abbreviation HEDEP be changed.

HEDEP has put the options of changing the abbreviation or appealing to the Court of Cassation on the table.

Accordingly, HEDEP will make its decision after a meeting with legal experts. In addition, HEDEP Spokesperson Ayşegül Doğan will make a statement regarding the matter tomorrow.
