Criminal complaint by Gökhan Zan, whom TİP withdrew from candidacy, revealed! 'They demanded money, showed a gun...'
Gökhan Zan, whom the Workers' Party of Turkey (TİP) withdrew as a candidate in Hatay, announced that he would not withdraw, claiming he was being framed. The details of the criminal complaint filed with the prosecutor's office by Zan, who was alleged to have audio recordings of bribery conversations, have emerged. Zan named individuals in his complaint to the prosecutor and described how he was threatened.
The Workers' Party of Turkey (TİP) announced in a statement that they have withdrawn Gökhan Zan, whom they had nominated as a candidate in Hatay.
The statement from TİP included the following: “Allegations have reached us that Gökhan Zan, who was proposed as a joint candidate by the Hatay Alliance, has entered into relationships that our party would never approve of. Gökhan Zan has informed our party that these allegations are a setup against him and that he will initiate legal proceedings. However, even though the process will be taken to legal authorities, we remind everyone that we will not tolerate even the slightest suspicion and that we maintain our unbridgeable distance from the establishment politics that has made methods like setups and blackmail a habit, and we declare that we are withdrawing Gökhan Zan's candidacy.”
CRIMINAL COMPLAINT FROM GÖKHAN ZAN
Gökhan Zan, who was withdrawn from candidacy, stated, “Those who want to maintain the reign they established by exploiting the resources and preferences of our people have been uncomfortable with our candidacy since the first day. When I did not bow to their threats and blackmail, they resorted to the FETÖ-style methods they know best, to montages,” and noted that he had filed a criminal complaint.
According to the report in Gerçek Gündem, in the criminal complaint he filed with the prosecutor's office on Sunday, March 17, Zan stated that 5 million TL was demanded from him and that he was threatened and subjected to blackmail.
GÖKHAN ZAN NAMED NAMES AND DESCRIBED BEING THREATENED
Zan, who also named the people who threatened him with creating and publishing a fake audio recording, stated the following:
“I am the Workers' Party of Turkey's candidate for Hatay Metropolitan Municipality in the local elections to be held on 31.03.2024. I met Turgay K. about 1 year ago after the earthquake. Turgay K. told me he would support me during my candidacy process while he was preparing a setup against me at that time. Turgay K., together with Mihal K., constantly called the phone number I use and said they would support me during the candidacy process and provide all kinds of help. About 2 weeks ago, I met with Turgay K. and Mihal K. in İskenderun. They pressured me to withdraw from candidacy. Turgay spoke in a threatening manner, saying that Mihal was a former FETÖ member and a dangerous person. I have a mentally disabled brother. They said they would harm him and do evil to him if I did not withdraw from candidacy. These individuals demanded 5,000,000 TL from me. They said that if I did not withdraw from candidacy, they would give a montage audio recording to the press.”
“THEY DEMANDED 5 MILLION TL BY SAYING THEY PREPARED FAKE AUDIO RECORDINGS”
In his criminal complaint, Gökhan Zan also alleged that he was threatened to support Hatay Metropolitan Mayor Lütfü Savaş, and used the following expressions:
“Since I do not have a bodyguard, I am conducting my election campaigns in close contact with citizens during the candidacy process. For this reason, during the election process, a few individuals told me during meetings with the public that I should withdraw from candidacy, that I should support Lütfü Savaş, and that it would be bad if I did not withdraw from candidacy.
“THEY SAID THAT MEHMET GÜZEL, THE CHIEF ADVISOR TO LÜTFÜ SAVAŞ, WAS ALSO INVOLVED IN THIS BUSINESS”
Furthermore, Turgay and Mihal came to my residence in İskenderun about 1-2 weeks ago to talk about the election. We talked here. When they came to the house, they had guns on them. They clearly showed me the gun and threatened me. They blackmailed me by telling me that they had prepared fake audio recordings and that they would publish them if I did not give them 5,000,000 TL, and that they had set it up themselves. They threatened me by mentioning that their cousin Mihal was a member of the FETÖ/PDY terrorist organization. They also said that Mehmet Güzel, the chief advisor to Hatay Metropolitan Mayor Lütfü Savaş, was also involved in this business, that he directed them, and that they came through him.”
“THEY SAID THEY WOULD DISRUPT MY CANDIDACY PROCESS WITH AUDIO RECORDINGS”
Stating that these individuals threatened him multiple times to withdraw from candidacy, Zan said, “They said they would disrupt my candidacy process with fake audio recordings by obtaining my personal data, which are audio recordings. My brother, Selahattin Zan, also witnessed some of these events. The person named Turgay called me via a foreign line and through the application called WhatsApp. I will submit the screen recordings regarding the incident to the file later. I am a complainant and plaintiff against these two individuals because they threatened me, applied blackmail, obtained my private life and personal data unlawfully, slandered me through montage, obstructed my election rights, and for other events.”
HIS LAWYER REQUESTED A PUBLICATION BAN AND SEIZURE
Zan's lawyer also requested a publication ban regarding the audio recordings, and that an arrest warrant be issued for the suspects, and that the digital and physical products in their possession be seized and examined.
