‘Joint declaration’ crisis within CHP: CHP’s Gürsel Erol signs joint declaration his party did not join

Following the terrorist attacks in which 12 of our soldiers were martyred in two days, the Grand National Assembly of Turkey saw the AKP, MHP, IYI Party, and Felicity Party sign a joint declaration.

The joint declaration, which condemned the attacks by the terrorist organization, included the statement, "Terror and violence will never reach their goal."

CHP PUBLISHED ITS OWN DECLARATION

The Republican People's Party (CHP), which did not sign the joint declaration, published its own declaration.

REACTION FROM CHP’S EROL TO HIS PARTY REGARDING THE JOINT DECLARATION

While the government reacted to the CHP publishing a separate declaration, CHP Elazığ Deputy Gürsel Erol announced that he had signed the declaration that his party did not join.

"I am signing this jointly announced declaration as the Deputy for Elazığ, knowing the expectations and feelings of our people. It should not be forgotten that both the country and the state belong to all of us," said Erol, who noted the following in his written statement:

'THIS ISSUE HAS DEEPENED DUE TO WRONG POLICIES'

"I have brought to the agenda at every opportunity that the fight against terrorism is not a party issue, but a state issue. It is never right to turn the martyrdom of the sons of our nation, the TSK personnel who risk martyrdom without blinking an eye to protect the unitary structure of our country and the existence of our state, into political propaganda.

Unfortunately, the issue of terrorism could not be solved during the 22-year period of the AKP government, which has been in power alone for 22 years of our 40-year fight against terrorism; in fact, this issue has deepened.

'THE REASONS WHY THE TERRORIST ORGANIZATION HAS BECOME CAPABLE OF ACTING MUST BE THOUGHT ABOUT SERIOUSLY'

During the coalition government of DSP, MHP, and ANAP, Abdullah Öcalan, defined as the "head of the PKK terrorist organization," was captured, brought to our country, and tried. At the end of this process, the terror problem was on the verge of disappearing, and the terrorist organization had reached the point of disintegration. Given this, the reasons why the terrorist organization has become capable of acting again today must be thought about seriously.

'ONE CANNOT ACHIEVE RESULTS BY TURNING PAIN INTO POLITICAL MATERIAL'

The AKP government should explain the support it needs to end the terrorist organization not just by asking for a signature on a declaration, but by bringing forward its solution proposals.

While fires fall into homes, mothers and fathers experience the pain of losing their children, and unborn children are left orphaned, politics cannot achieve results by merely condemning these actions of the terrorist organization and turning the pain into political material.

Despite these facts, I am signing this declaration, which was announced jointly in parliament, as the Deputy for Elazığ, knowing the expectations and feelings of our people. It should not be forgotten that both the country and the state belong to all of us."
