Critical meeting between AKP and MHP ahead of local elections!

As the local elections approach, political parties continue their preparations.

It has been learned that AKP and MHP delegations will meet for the 14th time today as part of their local election efforts.

According to a report by Cumhuriyet, the delegations will have municipal council memberships on the table during today's meeting. It is stated that a “zipper system” will be applied for municipal council memberships, just as it was in 2019.

According to the zipper system, the parties will enter the election with a “joint list” for municipal council memberships. The list will feature one AKP candidate followed by one MHP candidate. However, in implementing the zipper system, the AKP and MHP will also take into account the parties' vote shares from both the 2019 local elections and the May 14 parliamentary elections.

‘EARTHQUAKE’ IMPACT IN 11 PROVINCES

It is stated that the two parties will also seek certain criteria for candidates on the municipal council membership lists in the 11 provinces affected by the two major earthquakes on February 6. It is reported that the AKP and MHP will “take care” to ensure that municipal council members in provinces that suffered heavy damage in the earthquakes, particularly Hatay, Adıyaman, and Kahramanmaraş, are from professions such as “civil engineer, urban planner, or architect.”

The AKP delegation will also meet with BBP representatives today. While it is stated that the AKP will also hold talks with the DSP, it was indicated that alliances regarding municipal council memberships will be formed with both the BBP and the DSP.
