Date for announcement of AKP candidates has been set
AKP Spokesperson Ömer Çelik announced that the mayoral candidates for the local elections will be revealed on Sunday.
As local election preparations continue within the AKP, party spokesperson Ömer Çelik appeared before the cameras.
Çelik stated that a portion of the mayoral candidates for the local elections will be announced on Sunday, while the remaining candidates will be revealed on January 15th alongside the election manifesto.
Çelik said, "We will announce a portion of the candidates on Sunday at the Haliç Congress Center with the participation of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. The remaining candidates will be announced on January 15th along with the election manifesto."
Highlights from AKP Spokesperson Ömer Çelik's statements:
"We followed a multi-stage method regarding the determination of candidates. Opinion polls were conducted within our organizations. Our President held evaluations by bringing together metropolitan and city representatives.
Now, as a result of public opinion research and meetings, the names of the candidates have begun to be determined.
We will carry out the announcement of a certain portion of our candidates this Sunday at the Haliç Congress Center. We will announce the remaining candidates in Ankara on January 15th, along with the election manifesto.
We will have completed the announcement of our candidates in two stages. The work is ongoing.
There are many things we have done on this subject for 20 years. Our President has experience from his time as mayor. We will continue the good practices we have maintained so far, but it also requires new policies. It will be a manifesto that includes the main principles of our municipal tradition and blends discourses that will appeal to today's world.
As we head into the election process, work continues to ensure the broadest consensus and cooperation, and for the People's Alliance to achieve great success as it did in the general elections. Just as we announced the one with the MHP, we will make announcements regarding the others.
There is a good consultation process between our President and MHP leader Mr. Bahçeli, where meetings can be held at any moment when needed, and there is a traffic of discussions whenever necessary."
