Date set: Parliament to convene for Can Atalay

The Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) Presidency has issued a call to political parties regarding Can Atalay, whose parliamentary membership was revoked following his imprisonment in the Gezi Park trial.

The meeting, scheduled for Friday, August 16, at 15:00, is expected to include the reading of the Constitutional Court (AYM) ruling concerning Atalay. If the ruling is read, the process for restoring Atalay's parliamentary status will be initiated.

The Constitutional Court had previously ruled that the revocation of Atalay's parliamentary membership was "legally null and void," declaring the action taken to terminate his membership invalid. In its reasoned decision, the AYM stated, "There is no possibility to examine the request in question regarding an action that does not exist in law."

Following the decision, Atalay's lawyers filed a request for his release with the Istanbul 13th High Criminal Court. Can Atalay also drew attention to the AYM ruling, demanding his release and the reinstatement of his parliamentary status. The outcome of the meeting in the TBMM will clarify whether Atalay's parliamentary status will be restored.
